Industrial hemp as a sector is rapidly developing worldwide. The driving factors behind this resurgence are the legalization of hemp and the increasing demand for hemp-based products. New Zealand has the opportunity to evolve as a major player in global hemp production, due to the availability of clean water, and favorable weather that supports growth of a high-quality product. Hemp New Zealand, one of the earliest entrants into the industrial hemp industry, is today the largest specialized farm-to-factory hemp company in the country.

With a strong commitment toward the environment and sustainability, Dave and Anne Jordan founded Hemp New Zealand 15 years ago, starting as the first-of-its-kind hemp farm in the country. Since then, the Hemp New Zealand team produced a wide range of hemp products, from foods to healthcare supplements and skincare products. The primary focus of the company is in hemp seed production, retail and wholesale, and export of hemp products.

“Over the years, we have grown to be the largest industrial hemp producer in New Zealand, with a focus on raising the industry standard to new levels,” says Nigel Hosking, business development manager, Hemp New Zealand.

In 2018 in New Zealand, the legislation allowed hemp seeds to be used as a food ingredient. Hemp New Zealand used this to quickly transform the market, producing sales channels for hemp hearts, oil, protein and hemp cake.

Hemp New Zealand partners with local growers to obtain high-quality products that are spray-free and non-GMO. The cornerstone of its business is a sound quality assurance system. Its team provides the technical documentation, samples and certificates of analysis of their products to provide transparency for companies interested in doing business with them.

The New Zealand grown industrial hemp seeds have less than 0.035 percent THC. Strict laboratory testing is undertaken before manufacturing to ensure they are a great quality product.

A vertically integrated company, Hemp New Zealand owns the value chain from seed to sale, enabling product traceability. The 100 percent focus on industrial hemp in the factory allows strict controls to reduce any risk of cross-contamination. The 4000-square-meter facility has high-end machinery, including a dehuller, cold press oil expellers, protein mill, and ample cold storage.

Hemp New Zealand markets two brands. Promise markets an all-natural skincare line, while Hemp Farm focuses on hemp seed protein, capsules, and oils, and hearts, and provides them in small retail packs, as well as in bulk for food manufacturers.

The Hemp New Zealand team are passionate about the possibilities related to hemp products. They continue to focus on educating people on the upside of industrial hemp while reducing any stigma and working on research and development of its health benefits with universities, businesses, and partners. Hemp New Zealand’s unrivaled expertise and industry knowledge positions it as the comprehensive answer for all the industry’s hemp needs.
