Apart from technology, smarter food safety is also about leadership and creativity, with convenient, effective, and modern techniques. It is led by people, based on FSMA, but is driven by technology.
FREMONT, CA: Recently, there was a new approach to food safety that came onto the surface, unlike the existing ones. The latest advancement helps in building a process as well as a tool that will be required and utilized well in the future.
The agency is working on the strategies that outline the FDA plans to utilize technology, and other tools, to build a more digital, visible, and secure food system. The work will be based on the advances that have been updated by the implementation of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA).
Meanwhile, other advancements are being made to the existing technologies used in different sectors, such as blockchain, IoT, sensors technology, and AI. There are a few priority subjects that can be considered as the center of the internal workgroups and stakeholders to discuss:
• Traceability and Outbreak Response: Considering the technologies, data streams, and other methods in recent times, people will witness a significant reduction in the tracking time. They will be able to trace the origin of a tainted food as quick as possible and respond actively to any public health risks.
• Smarter Tools and Prevention: Improvement of the utilization of new insights from trackback, data streams, and tools for quickly evaluating data. The capability to leverage new data analysis tools and predictive analytics can lend an extending hand to FDA and stakeholders to recognize and mitigate the probable food safety risks better.
• New Business Models: The advancement in safety measures in both new as well as traditional models, new models such as e-commerce and home delivery of foods, along with traditional models such as retail food establishments.
• Safety Culture for Food: The promotion and identification of different roles when it comes to the food safety culture on ranches and in facilities. It revolves around the fact that what companies think about food safety and how they show their commitment to the work. Making stronger food safety cultures is also essential, and the FDA is working to inform the consumers better about safe food handling ways.
