FREMONT, CA: “Food waste is one of the biggest, yet solvable catastrophes—as we waste approximately 40 percent of the food grown in this country,” states Justin Kamine, Do Good Foods Co-CEO. The Kamine Family, a veteran pioneer with a 40-year track record of constructing large-scale infrastructure projects throughout the country, has come up with Do Good Foods. Do Good Foods is the first scalable solution to the 48 billion pounds of food waste generated by grocery retailers each year, backed by a $169 million investment by Nuveen. After human donations have occurred, the company's closed-loop system collects fruits, vegetables, and meats and upcycles them into nutrient-dense animal feed to provide sustainable animal protein.
Hal, Matt, and Justin Kamine have co-founded Do Good Foods as part of their commitment to address urgent climate concerns and create a more sustainable world. Over the following five years, the business plans to replicate the strategy across the country.
“We need actionable solutions to our massive environmental problems, and we need them now. We can't afford to wait 10 years or 20 years,” says Co-CEO Matt Kamine. “The beauty of Do Good Foods is that it has immediate economic and environmental impact by driving us toward a more sustainable food system for all.”
“To put it into perspective, that is like buying five bags of groceries and throwing two of them in the garbage as you walk out the door. We know consumers are becoming more eco-conscious and want to waste less. Through Do Good Foods, we are providing consumers with an easy way to do good for their plate and the planet,” adds Justin.
Do Good Foods has garnered some of the nation's leading grocery merchants and thought leaders committed to advancing scalable solutions to food waste, including Sam Kass, renowned chef and nutrition policy advisor to President Obama, and Ann Veneman, former US Secretary of Agriculture.
