Keyto seeks to facilitate the tracking of body transition to ketosis for people on ketogenic diets by simply blowing into a device. It was founded by Ethan Weiss, a UC San Francisco cardiologist, and Ray Wu, former Vice President of Weight Watchers.
Ketogenic dieting has now become Silicon Valley technology's favorite pastime to hack their bodies in order to strengthen energy and performance. The regime includes eating high-fat foods and some protein while maintaining a minimum level of carbohydrates. The main objective of ketogenic diets is to accomplish a state of ketosis that requires that carbohydrates remain intake at less than 5 percent daily. Once that occurs, the body burns the fat that is stored rather than recently consumed carbohydrates and causes the body to accumulate acid ketones. Some critics say that "keto" like Atkins or Whole30, is just another fad diet but others rave over the advantages of ketosis, from weight loss to increasing energy. In fact, ketones can be measured in the blood, urine, and respiratory tract. The number of people on a diet is determined if their carb limitation has an effect. But it's something for some to measure by blood or urine.
Keyto recently announced a $2.5 million round of funding raised for the Keyto Breath Analyzer and its associated app and started an Indiegogo campaign. Keyto members can now pick up a $99 Keyto System on Indiegogo. Keyto will retail for $150 after the crowdfunding campaign. Mostly, the body releases ketones to the bloodstream through a diet. Most cells prefer blood sugar, the body's main source of energy, which is derived from carbohydrates. In the absence of the blood sugar circulating in the food, the stored fat breaks down into molecules called ketone bodies (ketosis). Upon initiating ketosis, most cells use ketone systems for energy generation.
The Keyto analyzer measures the quantity of acetone that is exhaled and passes it to the Keyto app. The app then reports on the level of ketosis at one to ten (the higher the level, the more fat burning efficiently). The Keyto app also provides food and meal recommendations accordingly, based on the current and target weights.
