Here's How Neutrall is Transforming the Glassware Sector

FREMONT, CA: Many people across the country have discovered that their recycling program no longer accepts glass products in recent years. This is problematic for environmentalists because glass is one of the few materials that can be recycled indefinitely. One glass at a time, one family in Austin, Texas, is attempting to transform the glassware industry. They have designed a collection of glassware that is both upcycled and sustainable, meaning it is made from previously wasted glass.

“We are essentially offering the most eco-friendly glassware that money can buy,” explains Sarah Scott Mitchell, Co-owner, Neutrall. “As the saying goes, you should be the change you want to see in the world, so we created the change we wanted, and we are bringing to the rest of the country.”

Mitchell and Ernesto Humpierres are parents to young twins and live in Austin. She has dedicated her career to conservation and is currently the director of the Cooks Branch Conservancy, where she assists in restoring natural habitats. Conservation and sustainability are also important to Humpierres, who has worked in several commercial contexts. They intended to show how conservation and sustainability can coexist with business approaches by working together. Neutrall was born as a result of this.

To assure that the glassware line would be everything they hoped for, they began by having it created in the United States. After all, if something marketed as sustainable or eco-friendly traveled 10,000 miles to reach you, it is not as sustainable or eco-friendly as one might hope. Instead, they pledged to keep all manufacturing and fulfillment in the United States.

The glasses are well-made, small, and Montessori-friendly. They are transported in carbon-neutral packaging, there is no waste, and each purchase comes with additional carbon offsets to ensure that the product is carbon-neutral. “Things have to change, and we are happy to start leading the way to do that,” added Humpierres. “This is just the beginning. We look forward to where this will go and what other companies will come along with us.”

Neutrall’s initial product is a pair of two repurposed 8-ounce glass cups that come in environmentally friendly packaging. The compact and robust glasses are ideal for morning juices and drinks and small hands. They are perfect for families, as well as weddings and housewarming gifts.
