Sustainability

A packaging trend that is frequently spoken about is sustainable packaging. Many businesses are transforming to offer safe and environmentally friendly packaging due to the increasing demand from customers. According to research by Trivium Packaging, almost three-quarters (74 percent) of customers are prepared to pay more for sustainable packaging. Nowadays, most consumers have become environmentally conscious, and some consider environmentally friendly recyclable packaging as a crucial product.

Clear Labelling

The consumers are more conscious about what they consume, which is why businesses are beginning to offer better labeling and transparent packaging. A tighter labeling regulation will be implemented in October 2021, 'Natasha's Law' is new legislation that will require complete labeling of ingredients and allergens on goods that are pre-packed for direct sale. However, the act is only applicable to England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. In 2021, consumer trust will be a critical factor to create and sustain, which a lot of businesses will be open to modifying their ways to meet consumer needs.

Refillable Packaging

In 2020 the world has witnessed the trial run of Asda's Sustainability shop. It was a new plastics reduction initiative that ensures the consumers will not have to pay more for greener options. By providing products like cereals, tea bags, and coffee, the store is there to help consumers minimize, reuse and recycle, and cut down on single-use plastic.

Asda revealed that they are planning to introduce this model in several of their other stores in 2021. They expect that other major UK supermarkets will follow in the sustainable footsteps of Asda during next year.
